--1B Matt LaPorta, who hasn't started a game since Sunday due to a strained left hip, singled in a pinch-hitting appearance in the ninth inning Tuesday. Manager Manny Acta said he is hopeful LaPorta can return to the starting lineup Wednesday.

--RHP Carlos Carrasco will be recalled from Class AAA Columbus (Ohio) on Wednesday and will start that day against the White Sox. In 25 starts at Columbus, Carrasco was 10-6 with a 3.65 ERA. He will be part of a six-man rotation down the stretch designed to limit innings for some of the Indians' young starters, such as Jeanmar Gomez, Mitch Talbot, Josh Tomlin, and Justin Masterson.

--LHP Aaron Laffey has been activated off the disabled list and optioned to Class AAA Columbus (Ohio). Laffey had been sidelined since July 23 with left shoulder fatigue. In a combined six minor league rehab appearances with three clubs, Laffey allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings. He made five starts for Cleveland in June and July, going 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA. In 20 big-league relief appearances to start the season, he was 0-1 with a 5.61 ERA.

--C Lou Marson's double Tuesday was only his second hit in the last six games. Marson is in a 2-for-21 slide.

--RHP Justin Masterson pitched 7 2/3 innings Tuesday, matching his third-longest outing of the season. In five starts in August, Masterson was 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA.
