2012 CSR NFL POWER RANKINGS
UPDATED FEBRUARY 8TH
| RK (LW) | TEAM | REC | COMMENT | |
![]() | 1 (8) | Giants | 9-7 | The Giants got hot in the playoffs, as Eli Manning and his trio of wide receivers led them to another improbable Super Bowl win over the Patriots. They defeated highly touted teams in the Falcons, Packers, and 49ers, with the last two on the road, in the NFC playoffs. |
![]() | 2 (3) | Patriots | 13-3 | New England had many chances to win the Super Bowl, after luckily escaping defeat by the Ravens in the AFC. Tom Brady was not his usual self in losing again to the Giants in the big game. |
![]() | 3 (1) | Packers | 15-1 | The Packers looked sloppy in their home loss to the Giants, as turnovers and dropped passes doomed them. Their defense regressed this year, and will need to improve that along with the offensive line. |
![]() | 4 (5) | Ravens | 12-4 | Baltimore just missed their chance to beat the Pats and advance to the Super Bowl, but still have a solid team heading into next year. They are getting old at some key positions, but keep bringing in yolung talent through good drafting. |
![]() | 5 (4) | 49ers | 13-3 | The 49ers had their chances to beat the Giants and go to the Super Bowl, but inexperience and a lack of explosive offensive playmakers cost them. I'm not sure Alex Smith is the guy to bring them there. |
![]() | 6 (2) | Saints | 13-3 | New Orleans had trouble with their defense, as they scored with ease against the 49ers, but could not stop them when it counted, in their playoff loss. |
![]() | 7 (10) | Texans | 10-6 | Houston looked sharp in their win over the Bengals, and battled the Ravens on the road in their loss. Losing QB Matt Schaub to an injury really hurt their chances. My sleeper pick for next year's Super Bowl. |
![]() | 8 (6) | Steelers | 12-4 | The Steelers had a terrible game plan against the Broncos, as Tim Tebow burned them with the deep pass all game. Injuries really took thier toll on the team this year as well, but they will always be solid contenders with their strong front office. |
![]() | 9 (7) | Falcons | 10-6 | Atlanta was dominated in their road loss to the Giants, as they could not get anything going on offense. |
![]() | 10 (9) | Lions | 10-6 | The Lions hung tough with the Saints on the road, but could not stop their high-powered offense. They need to find a better running game, and some help on defense. Super Bowl sleeper next season. |
![]() | 11 (11) | Bengals | 9-7 | Cinci has a good young team, but needs to add a few more parts to the team to compete in the playoffs. They have two 1st rd picks which will help, as they have needs in the secondary and running back. |
![]() | 12 (12) | Chargers | 8-8 | The Chargers may have been playing the best football the second half of the year, but blew their chances with a 6-game losing streak. No one wanted to play them in the playoffs if they snuck in. They need help along the defensive line and secondary, and are my early Super Bowl pick for next year. |
![]() | 13 (13) | Eagles | 8-8 | Philly is another team that got hot at the end, and would have scared people in the playoffs. They need help in stopping the run on defense, and along the offensive line. |
![]() | 14 (14) | Cowboys | 8-8 | Dallas has tons of talent, but Tony Romo is a choker, and their head coach makes bad decisions. They need help in their secondary, and offensive line, but have enough playmakers on both sides to always be dangerous. |
![]() | 15 (15) | Jets | 8-8 | The Jets did not have the talent this year, and Mark Sanchez is not a franchise QB. |
![]() | 16 (16) | Broncos | 8-8 | The Broncos beat the Steelers in the 1st rd of the playoffs, in a game that not many gave them a chance to win. Their game plan was great, as they beat them with the deep pass, as Pitt stacked the line for the running game. They have talent, but not sure Tebow is an elite QB. |
![]() | 17 (17) | Titans | 9-7 | The Titans have some talent on both sides of the ball, and need to start Jake Locker at QB next year, as he performed well this year, when called upon. |
![]() | 18 (18) | Cardinals | 8-8 | The Cardinals played great the second half of the year, and will be a contender next season. |
![]() | 19 (19) | Bears | 8-8 | Chicago looked like a playoff team until they lost Jay Cutler to an injury. Cutler is a lot better than people give him credit for. |
![]() | 20 (20) | Raiders | 8-8 | Oakland made some changes to the coaching staff, and will try to change the losing culture it has grown accostumed to. |
![]() | 21 (21) | Seahawks | 7-9 | Seattle has a young team that will be a contender next year. They have a strong defense, and their offensive line is good. They need a better quarterback, and a few explosive playmakers on offense. |
![]() | 22 (22) | Dolphins | 6-10 | Miami finished the year strong, but needs a few pieces to contend with the Patriots. They are believed to be looking for a QB, with Peyton Manning being mentioned. They need help along both lines to compete. |
![]() | 23 (23) | Panthers | 6-10 | Carolina needs to build a better defense to go with their strong offense. They can score points with Cam Newton and their strong running game, but the defense needs to get better against the run. |
![]() | 24 (24) | Chiefs | 7-9 | Kansas City played well at the end of the year, but need help on offense. Romeo Crennel was named the head coach, after the team played well under him the last few games, as he was the interim. |
![]() | 25 (25) | Bills | 6-10 | Buffalo needs some help on their defense and their offensive line. They have some strong playmakers on both sides of the ball, but were very inconsistent, after a good start to the year. |
![]() | 26 (26) | Jaguars | 5-11 | The Jags have a strong defense, but need help in the passing game on offense. They need a few wide receivers to help QB Blane Gabbert. |
![]() | 27 (27) | Vikings | 3-13 | Minnesota may look to Robert Griffin III, as they are not sure Christina Ponder is the answer at QB. |
![]() | 28 (28) | Redskins | 5-11 | Washington needs a quarterback, or they will continue to be an average team. They are rumored to be after Peyton Manning if he is made available, as well as trading up in the draft to try and get Robert Griffin. |
![]() | 29 (29) | Buccaneers | 4-12 | The Bucs fired their head coach, and need a lot of changes on both sides of the ball. They hired Rutgers coach to take over, as they went for a college guy with no experience in the NFL> |
![]() | 30 (30) | Browns | 4-12 | The Browns need a lot of help on offense, as they lack speed and playmakers on both sides of the ball. |
![]() | 31 (31) | Colts | 2-14 | The Colts look like they will get Andrew Luck with the top pick. |
![]() | 32 (32) | Rams | 2-14 | The Rams fired their head coach, and brought in Jeff Fisher to take over a talented team that really slipped last year. They need a strong draft and good health next year to get back on track. |
