The Pulse Of The City: NBA Losing Interest

It's Saturday so you know that means it's for another edition of "The Pulse Of The City" and this week I talk about how via word of mouth I'm hearing more and more people that either won't watch the NBA anymore or won't watch much of the regular season due to this new movement in free agency. Let's be perfectly honest, as of right now there is a small and select group of NBA teams that are actually legit title contenders and from the East this includes obviously Miami, possible Chicago, Boston and Orlando and might I add if Chris Paul could somehow make his way to the Magic I would favor them to come out of the East.

Then in the West you have the world champs the Lakers, Dallas and maybe Denver. So what this means is that every team that I did not mention in the above, which is pretty much 75%-80% of the league, are all what I call schedule fillers meaning they will not be a serious contender and just play to give the other teams an opponent.

This highly frustrates me because I love the game of basketball so much and really look forward every year to a new season and I'm always anxious to see how each team will do when playing one another with all the different styles of play. Sadly enough I do view baseball the same way but only up until the playoffs because then any teams that get into the playoffs have a good chance of advancing. Now with these teams that are actually contenders you can pretty much forget it if your a #5 seed or worse in the East and even worse in the West because of the higher competition.

Clearly the NFL and college football will probably be more exciting then the new season of hoops for the NBA next year and how important does the regular season seem now with these "Super Teams" being established, the competition just isn't really there. If I actually had the NBA league pass do you think I'm going to want to watch the Miami Heat versus the Memphis Grizzlies or the Minnesota T'wolves versus the Lakers? When I watch 2 out of market teams play I watch them because I think it will be a great game and the only way I would watch a game between one of the super teams and a team such as the Clippers or Raptors is if I see that the game is pretty close with 5 minutes or so left in the game period! So I really hope that David Stern is happy with how his product is quickly turning into a complete circus! Well until next week have a great week everyone!
